ABOUT GODKNOWS

Hello there! I’m Godknows Hwata, born on January 10, 1987, in the charming town of Mvurwi, Mashonaland Central, Zimbabwe. My life’s narrative unfolds beneath the surface, immersed in the enchanting world of underwater exploration and adventure. Commencing my freediving and spearfishing journey at the age of 18, I explored the farm dams around my hometown, sparking a passion that shaped my destiny.

In 2014, my quest for oceanic discovery led me to South Africa for an open water course in Randburg, Johannesburg. Sadwana Bay became the stage for my transformative experiences. Despite financial constraints, I returned to Zimbabwe, working to fund my dream of delving deeper into the ocean’s mysteries.

The turning point came in 2017 when I decided to embrace change and relocated to Cape Town. Enrolling in the Divemaster internship program, six months of dedicated training earned me my Divemasters certification, propelling me into the role of a Divemaster.

In May 2018, driven by an unwavering commitment to excellence, I undertook the IDC (Instructor Development Course) and earned my credentials as an Open Water Scuba Instructor. Continuing my journey in Cape Town, I share my passion and knowledge, guiding enthusiasts eager to explore the wonders of the underwater realm.

As a Scuba Diving Instructor, Nitrox Certified professional, and Rescue Diver, I am committed to safety and excellence. My expertise extends to Emergency First Responder instruction, emphasizing the importance of preparedness. I am also an Advanced Freediver, delving into the art of breath-hold diving.

Beyond the waves, I’m proud to be an NSRI Volunteer, contributing to ocean safety and community welfare. My love for the ocean goes hand in hand with my dedication to its preservation and the well-being of those who cherish it.

In 2023, I earned my STCW certification and currently pursue additional courses with the NSRI, aligning with my mission to give back to the community I hold dear.

I highly recommend GK Hwata as a SCUBA instructor. During mid 2023, I had the need to complete a PADI advanced course and went to GK to facilitate my certification. Having been a freediver for many years and holding a commercial SCUBA qualification for 10+ years, I was expecting to jump through some hoops and sign some papers, so to speak.

I was therefore pleasantly surprised when GK presented the coursework, facilitated my assessments and conducted the practical sessions with a level of professionalism and insight such that I learnt many new things and even rethought and optimized some of my ingrained diving habits. GK's quiet confidence and command of the subject matter is clearly the result of vast experience. Observing his interactions with other divers, I also noted that GK is great at tailoring his instruction to suit the individual, pitching it optimally for both age and experience.

GK is an exceptional waterman and blessed with an outgoing, immensely likeable personality. I feel this makes him ideally suited to SCUBA instruction, or indeed any position in marine adventure tourism.
